Partner - The Myers Law Group, LLP

Janice S. Parker is a partner in The Myers Law Group and practices Labor and Employment law as well as Business/Commercial Litigation and Wills and Estates.

Primary Focus & Experience

While a student at Howard University School of Law, Ms. Parker interned in their General Counsel's office which provided legal oversight over the school's various entities and projects, including but not limited to Howard Hospital, the radio station, matters of tenure for teachers and student concerns. It appears her legal acumen made quite an impression. Ms. Parker was invited to continue her work in the GC's office and worked as an attorney after taking and passing the Bar.

Ms. Parker had a two-year tenure with Howard's General Counsel's office. She was a supporting attorney in litigation against the NCAA, addressed communications matters for Howard's radio and television stations, as well as pursued intellectual property matters. Ms. Parker also gained her first exposure to employment law as she assisted in managing the professor tenure process.

In an important move to Dallas, Texas, Ms. Parker was invited to practice at one of the largest law firms in the State. To enhance her opportunities as a budding member of the commercial litigation section, she was an active participant in the city pro bono projects for family law and amnesty cases.

As the larger firms became smaller boutiques, Ms. Parker moved to a smaller firm setting concentrating on litigation involving financial institutions. Fulfilling a desire to own her own practice, she was a solo practitioner for seven years, still representing various companies.

Ms. Parker joined The Myers Group twelve years ago. In addition to employment law, Ms. Parker represents various business entities in a number of legal arenas, including, preventative legal counsel, administrative matters and hearings, pre-litigation mediation, as well as full-service litigation of legal challenges, including contract, property liability, medical groups acquiring/managing practices and other businesses. She primarily represents private companies; however, Ms. Parker has experience in representing school boards, and non-profit entities in administrative and courtroom proceedings.

In addition to policy development and conducting training seminars, Ms. Parker has advised clients regarding preventative actions to avoid liability and litigated and won employment discrimination cases by summary judgment and jury trial. She adopts a “boardroom” perspective of implementing and enforcing sound employment policies while creating an employee-friendly environment.

Recognition & Accomplishments

Janice Parker's accomplishments extend beyond the legal field. She is well recognized for her involvement in the community. Ms. Parker plays a principal role in “Helping Hands for Single Moms.” The organization provides college assistance and other services to help single moms complete their educations and create strong examples to their children.

Under Ms. Parker's direction, The Myers Group provided service to a local challenged Dallas School by providing winter coats to the entire student body. Every child could celebrate because the project exceeded serving the neediest; each student had an opportunity to feel special as they experienced the joy of warmth.

She's serious about giving back to the community. Ms. Parker also works with various Homeless projects, including serving at the Martin Luther King Center, and participates with Friends to Genesis, finding that abused women need assistance as well.
